GHANA FOLK ART.
"Everlasting Hair cut".
Sign for a hairdressing salon, signed and located lower right.
Wooden panel painted with three choices of men's hairstyles.
Size: 74x57, 5 cm.
Note: "Barbershop signs are certainly one of the most authentic urban survivals of traditional African art. They describe the 'being' of the contemporary in the same way that masks and hairstyles expressed the ancestral soul. On the fringes of official trends, the panels are a sensitive reflection of socio-cultural changes and express the deep aspirations of populations in the throes of change".
Literature: "Ici bon coiffeur", hairdresser signs in Africa. LERAT/SEISER.
