Gilles Traquini (born 1952) Paysage n°15 1992 Oil on canvas signed, dated and numbered on the back 66 x 66 cm Gilles Traquini is an artist from Marseilles born in 1952. He trained as a painter at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, before becoming a teacher himself. Several exhibitions have been devoted to his art, notably at 19 CRAC, Centre régional d'art contemporain de Montbéliard in 2004 and at Villa Tamaris, Centre d'Art à La Seyne sur Mer in 2006. Gilles Traquini has exhibited with many contemporary artists, including Bernard Lallemand and Léo Dohmen.
In 2002, the painter created "Hommage à Courbet : "Ne m'oublie pas", an echo of Gustave Courbet's famous "Origin of the World", painted in 1866. Faced with complaints from offended passers-by, the oil on canvas was finally removed from the gallery in Nice where it was exhibited. The artist claimed that he had treated the female nude "like a landscape". In the 1992 work we are presenting today, Gilles Traquini explores the landscape genre through a composition of acid colours and a matierist touch.
