First edition. Published in Le Mans in 1662 by Roland Fréart de Chambray (1606-1676), this work is considered to be one of the first theoretical treatises on painting; it laid the foundations of art criticism in France. A fine copy in an elegant morocco binding that can be attributed to Carayon.
