A student of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-arts, from 1880 Paul Quinsac exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français, becoming a member in 1887. A talented portraitist, he also specialised in allegorical and mythological subjects. Crowned with official honours, he received the bronze medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, an honourable mention at the 1900 Universal Exhibition and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1908. Sporting golden laurels and an almost rebellious look, our Druidess is a perfect example of Quinsac's work, combining historical subject matter with a certain seductive power.
