Xavier HOMMAIRE DE HELL (1812-1848), geologist and traveller, known for his travels in Western Asia and Russia; in 1846, with the painter Jules Laurens, he made an expedition to Persia, during which he died (in Ispahan). Autograph letter signed to the painter Jules Laurens (1825-1901). 1 p. in-8. [Paris, 2 October 1845]. Address on the back with postmarks. Rare letter to his travelling companion in Persia, the painter Jules Laurens, draughtsman of the scientific mission led by Hommaire de Hell. "Would you be so kind as to come and see me next Friday morning at about 10 o'clock. I would like to have a meeting with you to finalise our conditions, so that I know where I stand, if circumstances allow me to accept you as a travelling companion [...]".
