Isidore GEOFFROY SAINT-HILAIRE (1805-1861), zoologist.
Autograph letter signed. [Paris], 26 December 1855. 2 pp. in-8. On the letterhead of the Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation.
Empress Eugénie de MONTIJO donates wild horses to the Museum of Natural History: "The two wild horses that Her Majesty the Empress has kindly donated to the Museum of Natural History are of the greatest interest to the institution and to science. I had heard of this remarkable species of soliped, but I had never seen it, even in skin or skeleton form. I therefore began to study it immediately". Nevertheless, the scientist did not know what country these beasts came from and would like to know their origin and the circumstances of their capture.
