Obverse: ✤ B(EATVS) - FRANCISCVS DE SALES EPISCOP(VS) - ET PR(INCIPES) - GEBENNENSIS INSTITVTOR ORD(INIS) - VISITA(TIONIS), Blessed François de Sales, bishop and prince of Geneva, founder of the Order of the Visitation. François de Sales wears a hooded chaperon and a large pectoral cross. Under the arm, 1632.
Reverse: ✿ FORTIS VT MORS DILECTIO DVRA SICVT INFERNVS ÆMVLATIO, love is strong as death, jealousy cruel as hell.
A shield with his arms, stamped with a princely crown surmounted by a mitre and a crosier under an episcopal hat with tasselled cordelières.
Beautiful and rare original bronze cast. 53.2 mm, old collection label.
Ref. missing from TNG, Mazerolle. Tricou, Médailles de personnages ecclésiastiques lyonnais, RN 1959, pp. 177-196. The example in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon is smaller in diameter (52 mm).
