18th century hunting dagger, blade shortened to 30.5 cm. Flat-backed blade with the Solingen arrow and a hollow edge on each side. One decorated with a fleur-de-lys, the other with a Turk. The heel of the blade has a fine engraving "FOUASSE nephew and successor of Mr Guyon to the King of China on the Pont St Michel in Paris" and on the other side the same words but in the longitudinal direction. Finely twisted brown horn mount, hallmarked silver cruise. Scabbard also shortened and mounted with two later tinned iron fittings. FOUASSE François -Maximilien: Supplier in Paris in 1765-1775. Received Master supplier on October 30, 1765. It forges the swords with the musketeer Bodyguards of the Count of Artois. Nephew and successor of Mr. Guyon, with the Roy of China on the Pont Neuf in Paris.
