An ormolu and Griotte red marble Egyptian clock decorated with a bare-chested Egyptian woman supporting the dial, surrounded by hieroglyphic columns topped by bulls' heads. The so-called "Thomas Hope" model. The dial with Roman numerals, signed Joseph Dieudonné KINABLE, Palais Royal n°131, active between 1780 and 1825. Empire period. H_54 cm W_29,5 cm D_20,5 cm Literature: Pierre Kjellberg, "Encyclopédie de la Pendule Française du Moyen Age au XXe Siècle", 1997, p. 380, pl. A, illustrating a similar example signed Caillouet in Paris. An entirely comparable model, with an antique brown patina, dated circa 1805, is in the collections of the Royal Pavillion in Brighton, the model by Thomas Hope.
