Printed kalamkari TENTURE, Iran, Isfahan, signed Hossein Fakhârî, 20th century.
Large cotton canvas printed with a figurative decoration featuring an elderly man dressed in blue and turbaned, being sipped wine by a woman in the upper part and distracted by the setâr music of a second woman in the lower part. Between the two scenes revealed by a curtain, a quatrain in Persian nasta'liq is printed in black ink. It is taken from the famous Robâiyât by Omar Khayyam (1048-1131). In a cartouche at bottom right, the artist's signature reads "Amal Hossein Fakhârî". The whole is encircled by a floral margin framed by two borders of floral foliage with birds standing out against a red background. Fringes border the short sides and the work is dated to Isfahan in an inscription in black ink on the back.
260 x 126 cm. Some stains and tears.
