BIGILLION (Emile). Les deux amours. Paris, L. de Potter, 1845. 2 volumes in-8, half caramel calf, smooth spine decorated with gilt fleurons and fillets, gilt head, covers and spine cons. (binding signed Stroobants). 346 and 364 pp. Very rare first edition of this "Dauphinois" novel, since the author himself destroyed a large part of the print run after fierce controversy: several inhabitants of Grenoble having recognised themselves in the characters. The author, a clerk at the Grenoble civil court following in the footsteps of his father François Bigillion, a close friend of Stendhal, was one of the city's greatest art collectors. His art collections were dispersed in 1869, and his library later in 1872 and 1878. A perfect copy in a signed 20th century binding.
