Bushfire Dreaming is an important ceremony for the tribes of the Western Desert. It is a nocturnal experience in which participants dance around a large central fire and carry bundles of twigs that throw off sparks. It's an occasion where old scores are settled and there's plenty of playful fighting and aggression that manifests itself without any real physical harm to the combatants. The red and yellow lines represent fire, while the black lines are firebreaks that prevent the fire from spreading too far into the desert. MJ
