Hail of the Duchy of Mayenne.
Aveu et dénombrement fourni au Roi par Armand Charles duc de Mazarin, de Mayenne, de La Melleraye la Juhée situé en la province du Maine : Le dit aveu et dénombrement collationné à un double retenu en la chambre des Comptes, le 28 juin 1669.
Manuscript in-4 on vellum of 66 leaves dated April 11, 1669 (beautiful XVIIth calligraphy legible by the initiated) signed "Mazarin"; affixing of the ducal seal, collated and countersigned by Lejan. Bound in contemporary full vellum with framing double gilt fillet; boards decorated in the corners with the crowned cipher Des Mazarin and stamped in the centres with the arms of the same family, smooth mute spine. Printed bookplate: De Chavagnac. A fine copy.
Armand Charles, Duke of Mayenne, declares his vassalage to the King in this deed and thus "(...) Confesses and confesses to hold and to be subject to your crown in full fief, in simple foy and homage, my duchy and peerage of Mayenne-la-Juhée, situated in your province of Maine (...)", followed by a detailed description of property and persons (enumeration).
