MEDAL OF THE FIRST MODERN OLYMPIC GAMES, GREECE 6 April 1896.
Reissue of the copper medal awarded to the champions for 2nd place in the competition.
Identical to the medal engraved by the French medal artist Jules CHAPLAIN (1839-1909), second prize of Rome 1860, first grand prize 1863, for the Monnaie de Paris.
Obverse: "OLYMPIA", face of Zeus, his hand holding the terrestrial globe surmounted by a winged Victory holding an olive branch - reverse: inscriptions in Greek (Olympic Games in Greece 1896) and view of the site of the Acropolis of Athens. - 49 mm - 52.21 grams. - SUP
