Full black morocco, boards mosaiced with large emerald green box scrolls interspersed with undulating silver fillets evoking tree branches, black suede spine boards and endpapers, silver edges, in a black half morocco band folder, with black fine leather lined cover, boards decorated with grey streaked paper, smooth spine, silver title on spine, in a bordered slipcase. Binding signed Creuzevault. Perfect condition.
57 woodcuts in colour, including 1 on the cover and 4 off-text, the others in-text of varying dimensions.
Edition of 275 numbered copies, including 25 hors commerce, all signed by the artist and initialled by the publisher. One of the 50 first copies on Rives vellum (n°3) accompanied by a colour suite of the 57 illustrations on Montval laid paper.
Henri CREUZEVAULT (1905-1971) was a bookbinder (and the son of a bookbinder) and publisher. He was greatly influenced by Sarn and produced two editions, the first illustrated by Hermine David, and the more convincing one by Raymond OUDOT.
