Born in Italy, Manuel Orazi moved to Paris to begin his artistic career. Putting his talents as an illustrator and poster artist to work for various Parisian magazines, he regularly contributed to Je sais tout, Figaro illustré, etc.
and L'Assiette au beurre, and provided numerous drawings for the works of Charles Baudelaire, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and Pierre Louÿs. At the Universal Exhibition in 1900, Orazi designed the sets for the Palais de la Danse and the Théâtre de Loïe Fuller, largely influenced by Japanese art, reflecting all the modernity of the dancer's performances that so fascinated Lautrec. Our small oil painting captures the profile of Yvette Guilbert in evening dress, between two men in dinner jackets, among whom appears on the right the imposing stature of the painter Louis Anquetin, a close friend of the artist.
