Presumed provenance: On the reverse of the frame an old typed label in English, probably from a sale, with numbers and a date C. 10 / 12 / 43.
Related to the composition by Joshua Reynolds (1773) of similar dimensions (canvas 88.9 x 68.6 cm) depicting the famous actress Elisabeth Hartley (née White; 1750 - 1824) in the National Gallery in London.
