NECKLACE - SPECTACULAR MONETARY JEWEL - 25 GOLD coins and medallions attached around a GOLD chain with safety clasp, work signed by Goldsmith BALANCHE Monte Carlo - Length 50 cm for a total weight of 142 grams.
25 coins, from 15 to 35 mm diameter, from France, Romania, Great Britain, Spain, Ottoman Empire,
Nineteen coins are joined to the mesh by a soldered ring. The six most interesting coins and medals are mounted freely in a circle with 4 light claws:
- NOBLE d' OR à la Nef du 15e siècle, Etat italien " GENES " 96 lires 1795,
- 2 Colombian pesos 1872,
- 30 Romanian Lei 1890 bearing the effigy of King Carol 1st
- 20 lei of Romania 1944, commemorative coin of the royal dynasty, with the heads of the kings of Romania together, bearing the dates 1601-1918-1944 and, on the reverse, the coats of arms of the Romanian provinces
- fine pious medal of protection, 17th century, 33 mm, with the effigy of Christ nimbed (legend: "Fur Gut das licht" - for good the light) and on the reverse an angel carrying a cross (legend: In principatus super humeaum ieus iesa" - in the principality, on his shoulder).
This necklace was given as a New Year's gift on "1 January 1951", as can be seen from the engraving on the back of the medallion near the clasp.
HISTORY: this necklace belonged to an important member of the Romanian nobility who, like King Michel, was forced into exile in France in 1947 when the Communists overthrew the monarchy. This necklace has remained in the same family for 73 years.
