This XM is a second hand car with a well-known history. It too comes from the Aube department (10). It was first owned by the manager of a café in Brienne le Château. The car is well maintained and has tyres (front and rear) that were changed in 2023 (the car has not been driven much since).
This entry-level version of the Citroën XM, known as the "Seduction", dates from 1991 and is powered by a 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder engine, type XU 10 2C. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The exhaust system is in good condition. Its hydraulic suspension provides "royal" comfort.
The bodywork is very sound, including the underpinnings. Minor dents affect the front bumper, the front wings and the door sill of the left-hand rear door. A body-coloured spoiler has been added to the tailgate, as on other XM models. The 'Etoile de Mer' wheels are not original (they were fitted to XMs between 1993 and 2000) but, depending on taste, have been described as the prettiest XM wheels ever. The paintwork is a medium grey metallic varnish known as 'Dolmen Grey'. Note that the varnish has peeled off on the front right wing, the top of the quarter windows and the spoiler.
This is an example of the 1 Series, with its original, uncluttered dashboard offering excellent visibility, further enhanced by the presence of 12 windows. Bertone's design was highly inspired, with aesthetic nods to the SM, such as the recessed rear door. When it came out in the early 90s, the XM caused a stir with its angular lines, which, while not timeless, still make an impression today.
On the first vintages, the dashboard was accompanied, as here, by the brand's emblematic single-spoke steering wheel. This is fitted with buttons for controlling the optional car radio (not shown here). The cabin is in good original condition, with all the special features of the 'seductive' finish: no rev counter, but instead a large watch with hands, no centre console between the two front seats, no folding armrest for the rear seat, etc., but pocket trays at the bottom of the front doors and ashtrays in the armrests of the rear doors. Of particular note are the central locking of the doors, the manually adjustable rear-view mirrors from the inside and the 'Flodia' velvet upholstery.
Admittedly, it's not fuel injected and doesn't have hydractive suspension, but that's also an argument in favour of ease of use and lower maintenance costs. This youngtimer is very sound. For a very reasonable price, it's a real collector's item.
It's not just a collector's item. It's made to be driven, and its low mileage will help you keep it for a long time. It will take you a long way, in a spacious, bright cabin and in royal comfort, especially with its raised rear bench seat that gives you a good view of the road. You can also sleep in it, if necessary, with the rear bench folded down.
This entry-level version is starting to become rare, and even rarer in 2nd hand and with low mileage. Now is the time for XM enthusiasts to take the plunge.
No dynamic test drive.
