A conscientious work in which the author has methodically classified, in more than 250 chapters, everything concerning magnetism up to the magnetisation of plants. In-8, blue half-chagrin, smooth spine decorated throughout, marbled edges (modern binding). Rare first edition. This is one of the best treatises that can be recommended to anyone wishing to practise magnetism. A famous magnetist, the author fights against the marvellous and the supernatural and seeks to propagate magnetism by experimental means. Long handwritten note glued to the back cover, the binder has glued the original spine to the binding, otherwise a good copy (Caillet II, 5966).

A disciple of Abbé Faria, the author does not believe in the properties of a particular magnetic fluid but in a particular disposition of the soul. He believed in the existence of all psychic actions from the magnetizer to the magnetised. Mention on the false-title "Exemplaire offert par l'auteur au commandant Livet".
